A love poem I wrote for my husband on Valentine's Day 2011.
Untitled
For love’s own sake and in the spirit of food
Verse springs forth from my belly to liven your mood
Food is passion, food has power
Food can conjure a smile, even when it’s sour
This verse is spicy, savory and sweet
This verse is a banquet, so take a seat
This verse will incite hunger, passion and more
This verse will feed the flames of ardor
A yawn and a stretch in one
Breakfast time has begun
You are the sugar in my coffee, sweetening bitter days
You are the syrup on my pancakes, on my donut the glaze
The egg of my omelet, my orange juice tart
My day has gotten off to a wonderful start
Now that we’ve finished the morning’s crunch
Won’t you join me for some lunch?
You are the soup that warms my innards
The sandwich that comes with it all
You are the perfectly brewed glass of iced tea
That is so refreshing, quenching and tall
The day’s toil has made us thinner
Let’s remedy that with some dinner
You are as comforting as mashed potatoes
As gratifying as a New York strip
You are the bread that fills me up
And the fine wine on which I sip
It’s been said that life is a banquet
And that most are filled with disquiet
But I would be eating poorly indeed
If you weren’t a part of my diet
Happy Valentine’s Day to the Man Who’s Just My “Taste”
